E S C A P E

This weekend we socially distanced ourselves from Sydney and traveled down the coast to visit Gerringong and Werri Beach for two nights in a lovely airbnb. Gerringong is about 40 minutes south of Wollongong, and just outside of Kiama. It’s a beautiful little surf town with lots of breaks to choose from - the perfect place for a break from the city.

I brought the new camera and my trusty drone with big plans to get up
early and shoot the sunrise; however, we all know that plans change (often). Blame the cool
cloudy mornings, or the first evening beer I’ve had in 8 weeks, sunrise
was skipped both days.  Instead we spent out time playing in the surf and with the dog, and it shows - I came back with essentially 45 photos of the dog on my camera and zero drone shots. To keep you entertained on whatever quarantine day this is for you, here’s some shots of the doggo (and wife). :P

I still can’t believe that Bondi is empty. Especially with beautiful 3-4ft sets rolling in. Gahhh! Everything is different.. but also kind of the same.

When you shoot the same places over and over, you need to change up what you’re doing in order to stay stoked. I hit up Bondi two days in a row this week to catch some morning light. On both days the sunrise sucked, so I went looking for something else to capture.

Icebergs is always an insta favourite, but I particularly love it when it’s empty of both people and water. I tried to get back to basics and capture something different with this composition - leading lines and symmetry. Pretty quick I realised that this pool is made up of individual symmetric parts smushed together into asymmetry. It’s awesome. This is my attempt to capture that chaos in symmetry. Also the crappy sunrise still gave a nice subtle glow to the rocks. :)

Keep smashing that shutter peeps!

KEEP DOING WHAT YOU LOVE

In times like these, you have to take care of yourself and keep your inspiration going.

Bondi is closed. Bars are closed. I can’t get a haircut and will look like a hobo within a few weeks, but the mall is open.. woo??

Whether you’re quarantined, or not, we will all go a little crazy over the next few weeks to months. My goal will be to keep editing and posting photos at least a few times per week. Even if I can’t go out to take new photos, I know I have thousands saved on drives that I can dig through. Capturing a moment and meticulously editing it into something that I believe portrays that scene is my passion, and it helps keeps me happy and sane.

Find that passion. Keep yourself physically and emotionally healthy, and we’ll all make it to the other side. :)

Oh, almost forgot.. photo above is another from Bondi - I liked the colours and was playing around with a new lens :P
